Meit Consultants have had the pleasure of working with Kao Data since 2019 and were involved in providing MEP design services following the completion of their first Data Centre, KLON 01, located in Harlow.

Meit Consultants, working collaboratively with Kao Data, JCA, MCa and Abstruct adopted the principles of KLON 01, and provided quality-of-life improvements which included fundamental changes to a number of the critical services as well as general improvements to administrative and ancillary areas.

As part of these works, Meit Consultants were involved in the MEP design of the wider site-wide campus design, KLON 02, the subsequent third and fourth Data Centres planned for the campus (KLON 03 & KLON 04), taking the design from Stage 2 to Stage 4 with Kao Data, before being novated to JCA and delivering a Stage 5 design.

KLON 02 key facts:

  • 10 MW worth of available White Space
  • 1800 racks across 3400sqm of technical space via 4No technical suites.
  • BREEAM Rating: Excellent
  • PUE <1.264 (estimated)
  • Improvements to the overall MV scheme design, now incorporating a generator closed ring topology
  • Energy Efficient Cooling to the technology Suites using hot aisle containment with a combination of adiabatic free cooling with mechanical cooling assistance

Modifications to an existing standby power arrangement for a live data centre facility. This consisted of the replacement of the existing 6No Generator Controllers and the introduction of 2No 8000A Generator Synchronisation Switchboards complete with dedicated new switchrooms without any interruptions to the normal business operation of the facility.

The second of two new build Data Centres on the Campus. For the first DC we provided a Peer Review, for the second DC we were engaged to provide full design duties. We have provided full design duties from Stage 2 (Concept) through to Stage 4 (Technical Design).

The project delivered a new data centre consisting of 2 No. 2000kW and 2 No 3000kW data centre pods, including roof and ground floor external plant areas.

This project included new plant and controls system such as;

Dual MV supplies on-site – 132kV – 11kV.

15MVA of MV containerised generators providing N+1 redundancy within an external compound, complete with new generator control systems including G59 parallel operation.

New Static UPSs configured on a distributed redundant arrangement. 4 No per hall.

IAC solutions for the data halls based on N+1 redundancy.
